1. How do I sign up for the SH PTSO?
Get a form here, complete it, and mail it in with your membership dues to SH PTSO 13400 Elmore Rd. Anchorage, AK. 99516
2. How much does it cost to join the SH PTSO?
Membership is $5.00 per person, per year, and all the funds stay right in our school to help fund projects we support.
PTO Manager is a National PTO support product used to track and organize memberships. It allows us to set up events planned throughout the year so members can easily pick which projects they would like to help with. It also allows us to track your volunteer hours if you choose to update the information each time you volunteer. The site is password protected and neither the National Organization nor the SH PTSO shares your information with anyone. We merely use the site for ease of communicating with the membership and keeping track of events and volunteers.
4. What do I have to do to use the PTO Manager?
Once you become a member of the PTSO you have access to the PTO Manager. After becoming a member and we enter you in the system, you will receive an email from the PTO Manager Administration System welcoming you to the site and giving you a temporary password. Depending on your spam filters, this may go to your spam folder. If you do not receive this welcome email please contact Mary Beth Falcone to inquire into your membership status. You can enter the PTO Manager site by going to www.ptomanager.com.
5. How do I update my information in the PTO Manager?
Once you sign in to the site (per instructions above) you can EDIT your email and mailing address, you can update your preferences for volunteer opportunities, and you can view upcoming events.
6. I want to volunteer, how do I find out what opportunities there are?
You may look on our web site under Volunteer Ops for current or upcoming opportunities, go to the PTO Manager at www.ptomanager.com and see a list of all opportunities there, or contact Lisamarie Russell Volunteer Coordinator if there is a current project you wish to help with. When we have a project upcoming we first send a note through PTO Manager to those members who have expressed an interest in that particular project. If we don't get enough response or it is a new project that is not included in our PTO Manager, we will send a note out in the school's Daily Announcements and include a contact person's name, phone, and email address.
7. I want to work in the school store. Who do I contact?
Nancy Lovering handles the volunteer schedule for the school store. You should contact her directly and give her an idea of what schedule you would like to work.
8. I want to help fold and label the newspaper. Who do I contact?
PTSO helps the school fold and label each months newsletter that is mailed out to families. If you wish to participate in this event, please go to the PTO Manager and add that event to your preferences. In addition, you can contact Debbie Francis, 644-0534 and ask to be added to the reminder list and you will receive an email each month letting you know what day newsletters will be folded. You can check the schedule here as well.
9. How do I get my childs grades online?
About 80% of the teachers at South use an online grading and homework assignment program. If you have completed the form authorizing the school to release this information to you electronically and you have turned it into the office you will be provided a password for you to access your student's grades via the online grading system. The system can be accessed at anytime via the SAHS link South High School, 9-12 -- Anchorage School District. Click on your student's teacher's name and click on current grades. You may be requested to select the appropriate class and enter your students name and password. You may also set up your My ASD website so that the grading information comes to you directly each time a teacher updates class information. To learn how to set up your My ASD Website, go here. Lastly, for teachers not using the online system you may request grades from your student's teacher directly by sending them a short email request.
10. How do I set up My ASD so I automatically get my childs grades online?
Setting up and using the My ASD Website is simple and quick. You can find the instructions here.
11. I want to request financial assistance from the PTSO for a club or group here at South. What do I need to do?
The SH PTSO uses the funds it raises from membership and school store sales to fund projects around the school for different teachers, clubs, and organizations. If you are a teacher, staff member, coach, or parent involved in a sport or group here at South, you are eligible to submit a request for a Mini Grant. Forms can be found in the PTSO mail box in the staff lounge, or online here. It is important that you complete the form in its entirity and present it to Principal Fannin for approval prior to submitting it to the PTSO. This step allows the school to be aware of your needs, authorize it as a legitimate request, and indicates that no other funds are available through activities etc. Once approved by Mr. Fannin, you may leave the form in the President's folder in the PTSO mailbox. We process Mini Grant requests at our monthly board meetings, 2nd Tues. of each month. If you have a time sensitive matter that needs attention prior to a regularly scheduled meeting you may contact Jayme Ellerbe and discuss your time frame. We encourage you to plan ahead as approval outside a meeting is not always possible.
12. I have an issue I would like the PTSO to address, what do I do?
If you have an issue you feel is important to the membership of the PTSO we encourage you to attend a board meeting and discuss the issue with the board. Meetings are held the 2nd Tues. of each month, and you may send a request to be added to the agenda to Jayme Ellerbe.
If you have a private issue that you would like assistance with, you may contact Jayme Ellerbe, or any other board member, and we will see what we can do to assist you.
13. How do I get on the school's Daily Announcement?
The Daily Bulletin can be accessed at anytime via the SAHS link Daily Announcements. The most current five days of Daily Bulletins are also provided on the link Archived Bulletins
